Rules of the Naruto Battledome

I. Introduction
II. Rules
A. Thread Rules
B. Posting Rules
III. Moderation Criteria
IV. Battledome Encyclopedia
V. Conclusion

------------------------------------------

I. Introduction
The Naruto Battledome is a subsection dedicated to the discussion of hypothetical 'versus' scenarios (usually battles) between Naruto characters based on the Naruto storyline. This may include direct match-ups between characters, comparisons of character databook statistics (i.e: Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Intelligence, Strength, Speed, Stamina, Seal), or jutsu match-ups.

By default, manga knowledge is assumed in every thread in the Naruto Battledome. If you want to post a thread that's anime-friendly, dub-friendly or what have you, please specify in the thread. Please keep any potential spoilers out of your thread title in respect for the anime and dub only viewers (excluding characters names), but they're fine in your thread and in your posts in normal threads.

Please read and ensure you understand the below rules before posting in the Manga Battledome. If you have any questions or problems, PM a section moderator.

II. Rules

A. Thread Rules
Post threads of the appropriate subject.
Do not post threads based on spoilers.
If there is a thread identical to the one you want to post on the first two pages, reply there instead.
Post threads only if there is a discussion to be had.
Post all required information, including location, starting distance, knowledge and any special circumstances.
Do not post to cause drama or incite an argument.
Post a poll with your thread when appropriate.
Make sure that your thread title does not contain any spoilers.
1. Post threads of the appropriate subject.
Does your thread belong in the Naruto Battledome Battledome? (Read the first paragraph on what should belong here. Discussion of the Naruto Dub, Manga, Anime and general banter belong in the Dub Section, Konoha Library, Konoha TV, and Konoha Plaza respectively. Hypothetical battle scenarios involving other storylines or worlds belong in the appropriate subsection of the Outskirts Battledome.

In addition, match-ups such as ‘Sex battle: Sakura vs Hinata in chocolate syrup bath. who would win?’ are not acceptable in the Battledome. You may wish to refer to the Joke Battledome in the Outskirts Battledome for such threads. As for match-ups such as ‘Neji v. Shikamaru: Who is smarter?’, such threads should be made in the House of Uzumaki.

2. Do not post threads based on spoilers.
In the Manga Battledome, any pre-RAW spoilers pertaining to the week’s chapter may not be discussed in the Naruto Battledome. Unlike the Konoha Library, if the chapter scanlation has been made available and there is discussion of it in the Konoha Telegrams, then such applicable post-RAW content may be used in the Naruto Battledome. Members do not have to wait until Monday to post information pertaining to the latest chapter. BUT please keep in mind that if you are going to mention post-RAW spoilers, please spoiler tag it. If you are going to be making a thread please write a warning such as: [spoiler] in the title.

3. If there is a thread identical to the one you want to post on the first two pages, reply there instead.
There's no need to start a new thread if one already exists, and if the only difference is a minor detail then it's probably not worth starting a new thread either. PLEASE at least check the first two pages. Also, it would be a good idea to make use of the search function (if it is working) If you are planning to make an obvious thread like Kakashi vs Gai, Sasuke vs Kakashi, Kakuzu vs Deidara, etc., then there is a very good chance that someone has made that thread before. In addition, DO NOT post spam threads for a single character to prove a point or to be annoying. These threads will be sent to the landfill and the user will be punished.

4. Post threads only if there is a discussion to be had.
Threads posted can fail to leave opportunity for discussion if a) they are too speculative, with little to nothing known of one or more of the shinobi involved, or b) the outcome is self-evident without explanation. Threads where the outcome is clear without any discussion should also not be posted (e.g. Hinata against Jiraiya).). If you are going to make a thread involving characters such as Post-TS Temari, Hinata, Lee, etc. try to use you original post to explain what other abilities these characters might have for this battle to have healthy a discussion. i.e. Hinata w/ Neji's moves

5. Post all required information, including location, starting distance, and knowledge.
It may also be of importance is to explain what jutsu the involved characters may use, any important conditions and the ages or point in the series of everyone involved. Even if you feel that the location or starting distance is not important, choose them and post them in the opening post – it might matter to others.

Please, use descriptive thread titles so people know what they are getting into. So, no more threads like "what if...", "fight to death...", "assassination...", etc. These thread titles are terribly unclear. If a person reads such a thing they don't know what characters are involved and specifically what they are getting into. Above all, use common sense.

6. Do not post to cause drama or incite an argument.
No matter how clever or justified you think it is, don't use threads as a way to prove a personal point or to get back at someone – even if you do it in a very subtle way. Furthermore, if you know that someone has a rather controversial view, don't specifically make a thread to try to bait them into an argument. Basically, no flamebaiting.

7. Post a poll with your thread when appropriate.
Polls are useful as they allow you to determine popular opinion much more easily than relying on posted explanations, and you will often attract more responses by polls than by posts. At the end of the day, the Battledome is about determining who would win, and by posting a poll you allow an answer to be arrived at. There is no penalty for not posting a poll, but one might be posted for you by a moderator.

8. Make sure that your thread title does not contain any spoilers.
A new and very important rule is that thread titles will not contain any spoilers such as “Pain and His Bodies versus Kakashi’s Mangekyou Sharingan” This contains spoilers for dub only and anime only watchers. For such a thread, the title: “Pain versus Kakashi” will be sufficient. Thread titles need only to contain the characters’ names and other Battledome words such as ‘gauntlet’ if necessary. Although this sub-section assumes manga knowledge, the thread titles are not to give away any spoilers. Character names are exceptions. Keep in mind to place warnings in the thread title for any match-ups using post-RAW knowledge.

B. Posting Rules
Post constructively, insightfully and with purpose.
Keep on-topic.
Be respectful towards differing views.
If someone makes a mistake or breaks a rule, give them the benefit of the doubt.
1. Post constructively, insightfully and with purpose.
Nobody learns anything from reading a post that reads "sasori in a curbstomp" – that sort of posting is meaningless. If all you want to do is throw in a vote, then vote in the thread's poll if it has one. If you're going to reply in a thread, then try to have something meaningful to say on the topic. DO NOT post things such as ‘I agree with user’ repeatedly as that basically adds nothing to the debate.

2. Keep on-topic.
Each thread has a particular purpose, and you should not type posts in a thread where they do not belong. If you have an off-topic question or comment, post it in the conversation thread. If you have a comment which is related to the Tournament, post it in the Tournament discussion thread (not in registration threads or match threads). You may also use the PM function for under such circumstances.

3. Be respectful towards differing views.
If you disagree with another poster's opinion, then respond politely and constructively – do not start insulting the other poster, or treat them with disrespect because of their opinion. If you know that you cannot respond respectfully, then don't respond. DO NOT bait other users, or troll them. If you feel that they are trolling or out of hand then report it or PM a section moderator.

4. If someone makes a mistake or breaks a rule, give them the benefit of the doubt.
It isn't your place to mock them or call them out for trivial errors. You can explain a significant mistake or broken rule politely, but don't waste an entire post on it – say something on-topic too.

III. Moderation Criteria
The following are the criteria for moderation in the Naruto Battledome. If you feel that a post or thread of yours has been moderated in a way that is not in accordance with these criteria, you may PM a section moderator to explain your case.
Move Criteria
Deletion Criteria
Edit Criteria
Punishments
1. Move Criteria
- A post in one of the standard Battledome threads will be moved according to the following criteria:
- If it has at least 50% of its content on-topic, it'll stay.
- If it's serious discussion of the Tournament, it will be moved to the Tournament Discussion thread.
- If it isn't spamming or flaming and is related somehow to the Battledome, it will be moved to the conversation thread.

Please bear in mind that general chat is allowed in the conversation thread, but general chat posted in other threads will not be moved to the conversation thread – it will be deleted.

2. Deletion Criteria
If a post is made in one of the ordinary threads and it's offensive or spamming, it will be deleted with one of the following explanations: "Flaming", "Offensive" or "Spamming". If a post is made in one of the ordinary threads and it is over 50% off-topic and does not meet the criteria to be moved to the conversation thread, it will be deleted with one of the following explanations: "Off-topic" or "Non-contributive".

3. Edit Criteria
If a post has good content but some small sections which are offensive or spoilers, the post will be edited with a -snip- and an explanation will be left.

4. Punishments
Failure to comply with the forum-wide rules or the Naruto Battledome rules will result in infraction or a forum-wide ban. The most common to receive is a ban is to repeatedly TROLL, POST WITHOUT REASONING, or FLAME/FLAMEBAIT other users! Posting without reasoning repeatedly will result in an original 1 week section ban; the ban length increasing when you do not stop the action. Other bans will be dealt with according to the standards of the forum-wide rules.

If you break the rules enough to annoy me, I will personally ban you forever(I'm joking, mostly).

IV. Battledome Encyclopedia

LoS: Line of Sight. Means that the person or team has the ability to see their opponents.

Location: Where the battle is taking place.

Restrictions: Means that a character CANNOT use a certain move, ability, or bloodline. Common restrictions include Orochimaru's Edo Tensei and Pein's Chibaku Tensei (Both moves are NOT the same just to let you know.) Restrictions can also impose things such as time-limits like for Itachi's Susano'o or Naruto's Sage Mode.

Canon: This refers to events happening in the Manga ONLY. If it wasn't in the Manga, it never happened according to most of everyone here. For example, none of the Naruto Movies are considered Canon, and thus, none of Naruto's special Rasengan variations outside of the Manga ones are able to be used.

Filler: This means episodes or events in the Anime that didn't happen in the Manga.

Pre-Timeskip: Often abbreviated as Pre-TS, this means that the characters are from before the two year training arc in the Manga, and for Anime, the episodes before Naruto Shippuden.

Post-timeskip: Often Abbreviated as Post-TS, this refers to the current Manga chapters where Naruto returns after the two-year training gap. Also, this signifies the start of Naruto Shippuden.

IC: In character. It means they will act as they normally would within the manga.

OOC: Out of Character. The opposite of the above, basically. They will do things that they normally wouldn't.

Bloodlusted: Acting with the extreme intent to kill. Another form of being out of character.
